Seniors
in Walker, Michigan were busted for their class “prank”, a bike ride to school.
This marked their last day of classes so wanting to celebrate the senior class
got up early in the morning and road their bikes to school. It was all about
school pride and staging a “prank” without any damage (there was a police
escort and the mayor showed up). But the school’s principal was not so
entertained. She said it was a “prank” that could have hurt someone while tied up
in traffic. The parents came to a board meeting on Tuesday to speak up against
the principal’s overreaction “The
disruption to the classroom, the disruption to the school day, was not these
kids,” said a concerned parent, “it was the principal.” Pennington did apologize for over reacting on Wednesday.

Yogurt the Key to Sexiness?
At a lab in Massachusetts Institute
of Technology they made a break through discovery. Eric Alm and Susan Erdman theorized
that probiotiics—found in yogurt—help weight loss and sex appeal. To test their
theory they gave a set of mice junk food, regular food, and regular food with
mouse size portions of yogurt. One of the first thing they noticed about the
mice that were given the probiotics; was they had shinier and thicker fur and
were slimmer than the other mice. This wasn’t
the only thing that set a part the yogurt eating mice from their siblings. The male
mice had “swagger”. “We knew there was something different in the males, but we
weren’t sure what it was at first,” Erdman said. “You know when someone’s at
the top of their game, how they carry themselves differently? Well, imagine
that in a mouse.” Later a lab technician notice that their testicles were
protruding out farther. It turns out their testicles were 5
percent bigger than those eating regular food, and 15 percent bigger than those
of mice on a diet designed to mimic “junk food” in humans. And in this case,
bigger was better. “Almost everything about the fertility of those males is
enhanced,” Erdman said. She explained how yogurt-eating males mated faster and
produced more offspring. “There were legitimate physiological differences in
males fed probiotics, not just the extra sexiness.”And let’s not forget the
ladies. Female mice that ate yogurt were even shinier than the males and tended
to be better moms to their larger litters. http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news/31021731/detail.html

Super Moon
Astronomers say that the moon will appear 16 percent larger than normal as the moon reaches its perigee—the closest point to Earth in its orbit. Stargazers are in for a treat if the weather permits. According to astronomers at Discovery.com the moon will become officially full on Saturday at 8:35 p.m. This is very fortunate for stargazers all around, because this full moon, luckily, corresponds with the moon’s perigee, making it the biggest the moons ever been this year. Because the lunar orbit is not a perfect circle the moon’s distance changes with each revolution. The average distance from the earth is 237,700 miles, but because of the perigee the moon is 221,802 miles away. With the moon being so close to the earth means the tides will be higher and lower than normal. Unfortunately the super moon might be obscured by cloud, National Weather Service repots.

Mad Cow Disease
In
California this week there was the first case of mad cow disease that America
has seen since 2006. Fortunately the dairy cow was not yet slaughtered for
food. Mad cow disease first popped up in the1980’, 1990’s, wiping out English cattle
herds. It was also linked to 225 worldwide cases of human fatal brain aliments.
Luckily a human case has not been linked to U.S. beef. Now animals on the same
farm are being tested. If they are found carrying the disease they are to be
put down. Cows are believed to be infected shortly after birth, although
symptoms don’t appear for years.

Child Gone Missing in 1979
Etan Patz vanished on May 25, 1979, after leaving his family's SoHo apartment for the walk to bus stop. It was the first time his parents let him go by himself. NYPD and the FBI searched a Manhattan basement for the remains. A forensic team planned on digging up the concrete floor and removing the drywall to find blood, clothing or human remains in the building. The work is expected to take five days. FBI and police officials didn't publicly announce what led them to the site, but a law enforcement official told The Associated Press that an FBI dog detected the scent of human remains at the building over the past few weeks. Investigators have looked at the basement with curiosity. It can be accessed from the street on which was the boy's route to school. At the time, the space was being used as a workshop by a neighborhood handyman who was thought to have been friendly with Etan. The FBI has interviewed the man several times over the years. They questioned him again recently, and as a result the investigators focus their attention on the building. Because of Etan's disappearance it drew national attention to child safety, and urged future parents to help the movement to publicize missing children's cases. Etan's face was among the first to appear on milk cartons.

Buffett Rule
Obama
promoted his Buffett Rule, which states that millionaires and billionaires
should pay their "fair share". This should help reduce the federal
debt and pay for necessary government investments such as education. "One
in four millionaires pays a lower tax rate than millions of hardworking middle-class
households," Obama told a group of business executives. “It’s just plain
wrong that middle-class Americans pay a higher share of their income in taxes
than some millionaires and billionaires,” he added. This proposal came from the
billionaire Warren Buffett who said he pays a lower tax rate than his
secretary. This issue has become a political element.
